Following a stench of death it drifted closer

A torn and haunting vessel sailed portentously into the port

With no sign of life
The poor and voracious entered
To find a sickening sight
Remains and limbs lay scattered
Wood drained in blood
Dead meat putrefying and covered with worms

“Beware!
The plague seems near.
Evil’s been here
Stay clear!”
The rats were feeding
On the dead
Half eaten
The scent intoxicates the air

What
Had happened there
It seemed unclear
Till they found the drawn and naked
Helmsman raving like mad
His skin a chart of scars

In a fit of rage, he had torn the ship out of course
And slain the crew one by one, as they tried to regain control
